Small Plane Crash Near Schaumburg Closes Roads; Officials Urge Residents to Avoid Area
Emergency crews are currently at the scene of a small plane crash in Schaumburg, Ill., roughly 30 miles northwest of Chicago.
The crash happened just before 2 p.m. in a residential neighborhood close to Schaumburg Regional Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Schaumburg Police Department said the plane crashed after striking a home and also a power line.
The FAA stated that the plane, a single-engine Cessna 172, had three people on board at the time of the crash.
The Schaumburg Fire Department said that three people have been confirmed dead. Their identities have yet to be determined.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the cause of the crash.
The Schaumburg Police Department is urging residents to avoid the area around the crash site as emergency crews work to clear the scene.
The FAA said the plane was registered to a private owner in Illinois.
The NTSB will release a preliminary report on the crash within 10 days.
