eID: Enhancing Digital Identity for EU and EEA Citizens
Introducing the eID Card:
Citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) who are at least 16 years of age can now apply for the eID card. This chip-based card serves as a non-German national ID for individuals residing in EU member states or states adhering to the agreement on the European Economic Area.
Understanding the Electronic Identity (eID):
The eID, also known as e-ID, digital electronic identity, or digital electronic identification, refers to digital credentials that verify an individual's identity. These credentials have revolutionized the way individuals access services and interact online.
The eUICCID (eSIM Identification Number):
The eID (also known as eUICCID) uniquely identifies eSIM chips in smartphones, including iPhones and Android devices. This 32-digit number can be found in the device information settings under "Settings" > "General" > "About" > "EID" on iPhones.
