Fifth-Round Selection Marks Continuation of Family's Football Legacy
CHARGERS ADD PROMISING WIDE RECEIVER TO ROSTER
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Los Angeles Chargers selected former University of Southern California wide receiver Brenden Rice with the 225th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Rice, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, becomes the latest addition to the Chargers' offensive arsenal. His selection marks the continuation of a rich family legacy in football, with his father being widely recognized as one of the greatest receivers in NFL history.
The Chargers were impressed by Rice's athleticism, speed, and hands during the pre-draft process. He recorded 1,364 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in his final season at USC, showcasing his ability to be a downfield threat in the NFL.
"We're thrilled to have Brenden join our team," said Chargers general manager Tom Telesco. "He's a talented young receiver who has the potential to make an immediate impact on our offense. His football IQ, work ethic, and determination are all traits that we value highly."
Rice expressed his excitement about joining the Chargers and carrying on his father's legacy in Los Angeles.
"I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity," said Rice. "I'm going to work hard to make the most of it and help the Chargers win a championship. I can't wait to get out there and learn from some of the best players in the league."
The addition of Brenden Rice adds depth and talent to the Chargers' wide receiver corps, alongside All-Pro Keenan Allen and veteran Mike Williams. The Chargers hope that Rice can develop into a key contributor and help them make a run at the Super Bowl in the coming seasons.
